Abstract
This study was aimed to investigate the effects of aqueous root extract of Uvaria chamae, a medicinal plant widely used in African ethnomedicine, on uterine histology and reproductive function in female Wistar rats. Twenty eight healthy female rats average weight 123±33.5g were randomized into four groups (A–D)with 7 rats in each group. Group A served as the control and received distilled water, while Groups B, C, and D received 100,200 and 400 mg/kg of the extract orally for 28 days, respectively. At the end of the treatment, uterine tissues were harvested for biochemical, hormonal(FSH, LH,and Prolactin) and histological analysis. Results showed no statistically significant changes (p < 0.05) in uterine glycogen and progesterone levels across all groups. However, luteinizing hormone (LH) levels significantly increased in the treated groups (p
